Sunday 22nd March (ONLY)
London Mountain Film Festival (LMFF) Showreel Three (12A)
The Ritz Cinema is proud to once again host the LMFF - though the main thread of the festival is bold exploits and derring-do there is much more besides with contemplative works and the stunningly filmed beauty of the outdoors so please don't think 'this isn't for me' - if you are a climber, a biker, a skier or a boarder you will certainly not be disappointed, but, if you are none of these you can still enjoy the grandeur of the natural habitat and the touching human tales told.
The final collection (Sunday 22nd March) concludes with an evening of yet more inspirational people, journeys and landscapes. Two legends of the women's climbing scenes Ines Papert and Sarah Huenekin climb past the age of 50 and discuss how their relationship with climbing has changed over time - the level of their climbing certainly hasn't faltered. Next Japanese climber Masa Sakano explains his love for nature, traditional climbing and the vagaries of a Scottish winter. Weaving together Scottish and Japanese landscapes, culture, and language, this reflective portrait follows Masa Sakano from the icy crags of the Cairngorms to his roots in rural Japan, exploring identity, belonging, and the places that shape us. On two wheels we have Justinas Leveika. By day he manages a nursing home, in his spare time he crams in cycling ultra endurance events and this tremendous feature really captures his zest for life, balancing work with the saddle. In Colorado Niklaus Kuhn, a Swiss adventurer in his late 70s, proves age isn't necessarily a limit by hiking and skiing his favourite venue repeatedly, in one season, before turning 80 - inspirational. Finally we have a beautiful meditative exploration of life, art and consciousness with Cornish beach artist Billy Bartlett.
It's armchair adventure most definitely - though you might be on the edge of your seat at times!

About the LMFF - LMFF is here to support adventure filmmakers and communities with a passion for the outdoors, we do this by collecting new films from around the world and distributing them online in such a way that communities are empowered to host their own mini-festivals or film nights in venues that are local to them. It is expected that the London Mountain Festival's Community Events will grow in popularity in the years to come and become an annual treat for adventure enthusiasts around the world.
