London Mountain Film Festival (LMFF) Showreel two (12A)

The Ritz Cinema is proud to once again host the LMFF - though the main thread of the festival is bold exploits and derring-do there is much more besides with contemplative works and the stunningly filmed beauty of the outdoors so please don't think 'this isn't for me' - if you are a climber, a biker, a skier or a boarder you will certainly not be disappointed, but,  if you are none of these you can still enjoy the grandeur of the natural habitat and the touching human tales told.

Our second collection (Sunday 15th March) starts with Wall of Walls and takes us to the Canadian Rockies where world renowned ice-climber Will Gadd spent three years tackling immense ice falls and the resultant film offers spectacular climbing with immense vistas - Incredible. In Billy, a 70-year-old Argentinean grandfather navigates the fear, mortality, and internal conflict of ski mountaineering in Patagonia - could this be his last big adventure? A worthy exploration of aging, fear and the inherent will to keep going. At the other end of the age range Matt Foot is on a relentless quest to become one of the UK’s top dry-toolers whilst balancing fatherhood, a demanding career, and elite ambitions. Dry tooling is one of the more esoteric forms of sport, using axes and crampons...but generally without ice or winter! Next we return not only to Iceland, but also winter with an epic tale of a 'cycle to ski' tour (it sounds difficult - and it is!) - anyone who has travelled around Iceland will know the ferocity of nature and this film is unflinching in capturing the spirit of that country and its weather and landscape, simply stunning.

It's armchair adventure most definitely - though you might be on the edge of your seat at times! See www.londonmountainfestival.com/ for more film and background information.

Please note: tickets are available to purchase on the door if available.

About the LMFF - LMFF is here to support adventure filmmakers and communities with a passion for the outdoors, we do this by collecting new films from around the world and distributing them online in such a way that communities are empowered to host their own mini-festivals or film nights in venues that are local to them. It is expected that the London Mountain Festival's Community Events will grow in popularity in the years to come and become an annual treat for adventure enthusiasts around the world.
